OUR STORY

Welcome, my name is Tania Schollum-Hollier, I am the founder of the ABC Programme.  I live on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast, north of Auckland, New Zealand.  I am married and we have two fabulous children.

I have always had a great interest in working with children and have worked in both Early Childhood learning and Primary.

It has been during this time of working in Orewa Primary School, as a Teacher Aide, with children with Dyspraxia/DCD, and attention, balance and coordination difficulties, that inspired me to learn more and further my studies focussing on Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder.(DCD).

I am a member of the Dyspraxia Support Group of New Zealand Inc and their regional contact.  It was during a speaking /workshop engagement held by NZEI (New Zealand
Educational Institute) for Teacher Aide professional development, where I was a guest speaker on behalf of Dyspraxia Support Group of New Zealand Inc, that I became aware of the true need to make my ABC Programme available to other schools and the public.

Teacher aides have been working with children with Dyspraxia/DCD and attention, balance and coordination difficulties with very limited if any resources.

Although there is written text available about Dyspraxia/DCD, there is still very limited resources to assist/support children in schools with Dyspraxia/DCD or attention balance and coordination difficulties.  Dyspraxia/DCD effects between 5 and 7% of the population, meaning there is usually 2-4 children per classroom.

The ABC Programme has been compiled to assist and support both Teacher/Teacher Aide and student.  It is a ten minute a day, fun exercise programme that assists with attention, balance, coordination, gross, fine motor skills and helps develop confidence
and self-esteem.  Every step forward is celebrated no matter how small!

My hope with the ABC Programme is to assist and support as many children as possible who have Dyspraxia/DCD and attention, balance and coordination difficulties, and to bring some fun into their everyday learning.

I am available for speaking engagements and workshops on behalf of the Dyspraxia Support of New Zealand Inc. and for ABC Programme workshops.  These are held in Orewa, Auckland, New Zealand.
